Simplifying Clean Energy Project Development
Aire Labs sought to transform complex, spreadsheet-based project data into an intuitive platform for both project developers and financiers in the clean energy sector. Our collaboration enabled the CEO to effectively demonstrate the platform to investors and early design partners, streamlined workflows, improved clarity, and established product-market fit for their AI-enabled development platform.
Purpose Design joined Aire Labs to research and design a SaaS solution for clean energy project developers. We conducted extensive interviews to identify pain points in managing large-scale renewable energy projects. Our research with industry professionals revealed they struggled with complicated spreadsheets and manual processes. Additionally, our interface design facilitated faster scenario comparisons, risk assessments, and actionable insights from project data.

Project developers need standardized tools to make the energy transition faster.
Over a 12-month engagement, we began by conducting extensive 1:1 interviews with energy project developers to uncover real user pain points. This research revealed the dual need: a system for project developers and financiers, while preserving familiar spreadsheet workflows.
We then mapped customer journeys, created personas, and analyzed competitors to define feature sets that would best fit the ideal customer profile.
In the design phase, we wireframed interfaces tailored to different job roles and integrated Techno-Economic Analysis (T.E.A.) tools directly into the software, ensuring that both data modeling and visualization needs were met. We then created exploratory concepts based on our findings, and developed an interactive prototype that visualizes complex data from Techno-Economic Analyses.
Our prototype helped project developers easily identify risks, helping developers compare project options and spot potential problems before investing significant time and money as well as avoiding the manual processes that previously hindered their work.
Throughout the engagement, we collaborated as an embedded extension of the executive and product teams, providing design, advisory, and light brand refinement.
By grounding every design decision in customer research and iterative prototyping, we delivered a platform that aligned tightly with real user needs while also meeting investor expectations. The flexible, clean interface enabled actionable insights, faster workflows, and confident product demonstrations to design partners and investors.
This combination of data-driven design, role-specific workflows, and strategic advisory not only established Aire Labs’ product-market fit but also set a strong foundation for adoption and growth.
